Our History

Founded in 1835 by Bishop Christopher Rush, The People's Church has a long-standing legacy of community service and spiritual leadership. Reverend Thomas James, a former runaway slave, established the church as a beacon of hope for the Negroes of Syracuse and played a pivotal role in the Underground Railroad.

Over the years, our church has evolved, moving from house meetings to our current location at 2306 South Salina Street. We have been a cornerstone for many abolitionist and public meetings during the pre-civil war period and continue to be a center for community development and revitalization under the leadership of Pastor Daren Jaime.

Our mission is to transform lives, strengthen the community, and offer diverse ministries that foster spiritual growth and social impact.

Our Impact

Through the People's Community Development Corporation (PCDC), we have revitalized and transformed the quality of life on Syracuse's south side. From acquiring and renovating properties to expanding our outreach programs, our work is driven by a commitment to community empowerment and economic development.

Our ministries have expanded to include a wide range of services and initiatives that address the spiritual, social, and economic needs of our congregation and the wider community. Join us in our mission to make a lasting impact and bring about positive change.
