OUR HISTORY
Founded in 1835 by Bishop Christopher Rush, The People’s Church has a long-standing legacy of community service and spiritual leadership. Reverend Thomas James, a former runaway slave, established the church as a beacon of hope for the Negroes of Syracuse and played a pivotal role in the Underground Railroad.
Over the years, our church has evolved, moving from house meetings to our current location at 2306 South Salina Street. We have been a cornerstone for many abolitionist and public meetings during the pre-civil war period and continue to be a center for community development and revitalization under the leadership of Pastor Daren Jaime.
